Author: Denitza Mineva, publisher Janet 45, 2022

Denitsa Mineva is the author and illustrator of her books. In Allgreens, in which there is a “war between colours,” she uses the language of symbols. Two primary colours represent “good and evil.” The artist is very inventive in this clear semiotic pattern. The green and red squares have been transformed into little people through the addition of minimalist graphic elements. Facial expressions are readable and expressive – joy, sadness, surprise, rage. In this fun combinatorics, the nuances of emotions are numerous. Denitsa Mineva works with ratios and scale – the sizes of the squares and their compositions on the sheet change in sync with the text, translated lightly and playfully into verses by Zornitsa Hristova. One of the great qualities of Allgreens is precisely the interaction of the text and abstract images, which sets children’s imagination in motion and nuances the meaning. The author generously allows the children to choose their own ending to this story with a complicated ending. Besides communication and the acceptance of our differences, the message to children is to be discoverers. And this is an important part of growing up.
