Elitsa Sarbinova / Impatience in a Box
Author: Maria Doneva, publisher Janet 45, 2021

A few little stars beckon us from the milky blue endpaper of Impatience in a Box. “Three snowflakes for a title is a good start” – begins the first poem. White, golden ochre, fresh green, and crocus purple. The light illustrations, drawn alla prima in a predominantly pastel range, at first glance act as decorative elements around the wonderful poems of Maria Doneva. Elitsa Sarbinova wrote the titles in calligraphy and composed the facing pages so that the text is always leading. But the book is sprinkled with cute little characters, pretty flowers, and playful details. Fields with delicate textures indicate a laconic sky, sea, land. This book glows and breathes.
