Mila Yaneva-Tabakova lives in Sofia, where she works as an illustrator and graphic designer. She is the co-founder of a platform for independent publications, TI-RE. Her artistic education was in the areas of illustration, print graphics, and comics, and she attendedboth the National Academy of Art in Sofia and the LUCA School of Arts, Brussels. She is working on her PhD dissertation on alternative comics. She has participated in biennales and illustration festivals in Bratislava, Riga, Antwerp, Prague, and Bologna.
Yaneva-Tabakovahas illustrated and designed books by Valeri Petrov, Rada Moskova, Dodie Smith, Mary Shelley, and Oscar Wilde. She has published two graphic novels without words – On the Road, 2020, and The First Five, 2023. Another book with her illustrations, Tea from Paraguay, based on poems for children by Zoya Vasileva, is forthcoming.
