  • National Culture Fund

    The National Culture Fund is a Bulgarian organization of budgetary support to the Ministry of Culture, which supports the creation, development, and dissemination of Bulgarian culture and art in the country and abroad. The Translation Programme of the fund supports the promotion of Bulgarian literature abroad, namely the translation, publication, distribution, and promotion of works from diverse genres of Bulgarian literature, both contemporary and classic, into various languages. It also supports the creative activities and visibility of translators from Bulgarian to other languages.

  • National Book Centre

    The National Book Centre at the National Palace of Culture is the founder of the annual Quill (Peroto) Literary Awards. The centre annually compiles and publishes the two hybrid catalogue-anthology series Contemporary Bulgarian Prose and the Children’s Books from Bulgaria. It also runs two sponsorship programmes: the Translation Programme, designed for foreign publishers, as well as the Bulgarian Book Programme, open to Bulgarian publishers.

  • Bulgarian Book Association

    The Bulgarian Book Association is the only organization of book publishers, booksellers, and literary agents in Bulgaria. The association assists in improving legislation in the field of book publishing and the protection of copyright and related rights; participates in policies to stimulate reading; organizes book fairs, literary festivals, and campaigns; and carries out international activities.

  • Next Page Foundation

    The Next Page Foundation aims to encourage international literary communication by supporting the empowerment of underprivileged groups, languages, and countries for equal participation in the global dialogue of ideas and by developing cultural programmes and projects in the field of books, reading, and translation. In 2014, the foundation launched the Sofia Literature and Translation House. The House develops professional qualification programs for Bulgarian literary translators and offers residencies to book professionals. The House also offers a variety of public events.

    The Elizabeth Kostova Foundation supports creative writing in Bulgaria, creating conditions for professional exchange on an international level and empowering communities to develop through literature and writing. The foundation provides opportunities for professional development through a variety of training and networking formats.

  • Detski knigi Foundation

    Detski knigi Foundation was founded in 2013 with the mission to promote reading among children, to work for the change in adults' attitudes towards the importance of reading from an early age, to research alternations in public attitudes towards children's books, to collaborate actively for the development and promotion of Bulgarian authors, illustrators and translators through various initiatives and campaigns, and to stimulate Bulgarian publishers to offer the youngsters quality books.

  • Sofia Literary Agency

    The Sofia Literary Agency was established at the beginning of 2022 with the mission of working for the translation, publishing, and distribution of Bulgarian titles abroad. For its portfolio, the agency selects some of the brightest stars in the literary firmament of Bulgaria. Some of them are already popular and have been prolifically published abroad, while others are still finding their way out.

  • Bulgarian Translators’ Union

    The Bulgarian Translators’ Union (BTU) is a national non-governmental guild of professionals dedicated to the creative activity of translating and interpreting. Founded in 1974, it unites professional translators and specialists in theory of translation. The BTU is a member of the International Federation of Translators – FIT (Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs) and the European Council of Literary Translators’ Associations – CEATL (Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires).

  • Bulgarian Library and Information Association

    The Bulgarian Library and Information Association is a voluntary and independent professional and creative organization, uniting specialists who strive to improve library and scientific and information activities and raise the prestige of the profession. It was founded in 1990 as the Union of Library and Information Workers in Bulgaria. Since 2008, the association bears the name Bulgarian Library and Information Association (BBIA). Today BBIA has 1131 individual and 82 collective members. There are 19 territorial sections of the association, and 9 thematic sections.

  • Biennale of Illustration

    The Biennale of Illustration is an exhibition organized every two years by the Union of Bulgarian Illustrators. The exhibition is open to all Bulgarian artists (in the country and abroad) who work in the field of illustration and its various functionalities: product designs, social networks, online platforms, advertising, posters, and even personal or unrealized projects. The biennale was founded in 2018, and it has presented over 1,500 works by more than 700 authors to date.

    Founded in 2008 by Svet Simov in Sofia, Fontfabric has the extraordinary advantage of being able to draw from more than 1,000 years of Glagolitic and Cyrillic heritage. Throughout a decade of its existence, Fontfabric has remained a faithful and constant advocate for the development and integration of Cyrillic typefaces.
